My week with Johanna and Sofia

Monday: I went home with Sofia. She took me to her room and we danced and watched TV.

Tuesday: We had breakfast and I tasted Sofia´s sandwich and got a plate of milk and then we went to school. In the afternoon we went home to Johanna and listened to music.

The next day in school we had P.E. This day it was gymnastics. It was fun to watch. Johanna likes to stand on her hands. What do you call that in English?

Thursday: This day we went on a school trip to a town on the west coast of Sweden called Uddevalla. We went to a museum there. It was far, we went by bus and I got tired and took a nap. In the museum we first went on a quiz. It was very hard questions. The museum is about our region on the west coast, both historical and about nature. We packed lunch and we ate at the museum. We had a guide in the museum. The bus trip home went fine but on the tram I, Samuel, Max, John and Sofia missed that the others went off so we had to go to the next stop. Embarrassing... Here is a page you can watch about the museum. http://www.bohusmus.se/bohusmus/wwwbohusmus/utland/engelsk.htm

Every day in class I work really hard. I have my own books. On wednesdays and on fridays we have class orchestra. In fourth grade all student choose an instrument, a brass instrument. Johanna plays the clarinette and Sofia plays the flute. On wednesdays they practise the instrument and on fridays it is the whole class.

I had a really nice time with the girls. Say hi to Hälge from me/ Whisky

Heather G's week with Halge.

On Monday 5th November Halge and I went to see fireworks. Before we set out Halge got warm by curling up with my cat Biddy. Then we all put hats and gloves on and ventured out to watch the fireworks display. There is a poem that we say on bonfire night:

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

We saw lots of different colourful fireworks like Catherine Wheels and rockets. In the middle of the display we had sparklers and glow sticks. All fun has to come to end and soon enough we headed home. Halge and I thought it was absolutley brilliant.

Halge at the remembrance day parade

On Friday 9th November 2007 The High School of Dundee held their Remembrance Day Parade. Halge sat and watched the parade from the classroom window. This is what he saw: The cadets marched on, followed by the pipes and drums and Halge loved the sight even altghough he was watching from a distance. The cadets were all lined up and the Sergent Major gave an order for the colours to be presented. The Pipe Band then played Highland Cathedral. A poppy reef was presented by Alice Burnet and Duncan Leese and the head boy and girl. There was a two minute to allow us all time to think about the many people who gave their lives in the first and second world wars. It is also a time to think about other wars being fought today. The minister said a prayor. The Sergent Major dismised all of the pipes and drums and the cadets. All of the other High School pupils quietly walked back to their classrooms.Lots of people wore a poppy as a mark of respect. In 1918 gun shots died down in Belgum France and Germany marking the end of the First World War. After four years of fighiting more than 20 million men and woman were dead. World War Two began on the ist September 1939 . World WarTwo was the most blood sheading war ever and a tough war for the United Kingdom.

Christmas in Sweden, I like....

This week, week 48, I am with Sarah and Ida C. On monday asternoon we first did our homework.
Then we ate fish sticks and pasta and then watched TV. We watched Disney Channel.
On Tuesday I went to the shop to by some food and in the evening we had a candle party at Ida´s house. A person came and sold candles and there were a loy of guests there.
On Wednesday I went with Sarah and we did our homework. It was geography, we study Sweden in fourth grade. And we ate Beef stroganoff for dinner.
Thursday.
Ida went home from school today. She did not feel well.
Friday
At school we had an Advent assembly in our assembly hall. We sang songs and lit candles. We cleaned Ida´s house and put up first advent lights. We celebrate Advent in Sweden. We have a candle stick with four candles. Four Sundays before Christmas Eve we light the first candle
and then we light a new candle every Sunday until Christmas. Advent means arrival. We also put electric lights in the windows and stars as well.
Saturday
I go to Gislaved to meet Ida´s cousins
Mimmi and Kajsa. Gislaved is in Småland in Sweden. It takes about an hour to drive there. We went to Grandma and ate gingerbread cookies and drank glögg. Glögg is a traditional Christmas drink almost like glüwein. After that we went to Ida´s cousins house. All the parents went to a party and grandma babysat. We played cards.
On Sunday we went home and get Ida´s leggings because Sarah and Ida were going to had a dance performance. They were fantastic. After that there were more glögg, a party at Sarah´s house. That is a huge tradition in Sweden; glögg parties!!! Since it is alcohol in the glögg, we drank julmust, that is sooo good. Julmust is a softdrink brewed in Sweden for ages. It sells more than Coca-Cola in Sweden which is very annoying for them....
God Jul everyone!!!! From Whisky

Answers and questions from Sweden

Hello everyone in L6a!!!
At halloween we dress up as scary things as ghosts, vampires, witches and more just like you.We knock on other families doors and says "bus eller godis". That means trick or treat in Swedish. We do not have to do any tricks to get candy. That is a part of the tradition we have missed.

We put ligths on the graves because we think that on All Hallows Eve the dead leave their graves to say hi and it is important that they find their way back. We do not want them to wander around other evenings of the year.

Here is some typical Swedish food:

Breakfast (frukost): We eat bread with cheese or ham (and some other stuff that is hard to explain). We drink milk or juice. A lot of people eat yoghurt and cereals.

Lunch (lunch) We eat cooked lunch in school everyday. Sometimes we get fish and potatoes with a sauce and vegetables.

Dinner at home (middag) could be meatballs and mashed potatoes with sauce and lingonberry jam.

You will hear more about this following Whisky´s adventures.

Our Autumn holiday is for one week, always week 44 when it is All Hallows Eve on the Friday that week.

Summer Holiday is for ten weeks, from middle of june to the end of August.

The weather today: THE FIRST SNOW CAME TODAY!!!!!! BIG SNOW FLAKES!!!

Whisky is setteling in

Hi everybody! I´m starting to feel quite at home here in Göteborg now. I´ve spent a lot of time in school and also with the teachers in class 4B. Right now there is autumn holiday in Sweden and the schools are empty. It is All hallows here as well even if there are different ways of celebrating it. (They do dress up here too, but that is really our tradition). Here they light candles on all graves so that everyone in them can find their way back... Here is a picture of me in the empty class room. I miss the children.

The teachers are here working and there a lot of things going on in the school yard since they are building a new school house. There is not much room for the children to play. Here is a picture of me in front of the building site.
Next week the whole school is working with the same theme. Since one of Sweden´s most famous people was born 100 years ago children all around Sweden celebrates this occasion. It is Astrid Lindgren, the famous writer, who wrote Pippi Longstocking and many other books who we are celebrating. More of this next week. I hope you have a good time with Hälga and by the way, I met Buttons yesterday. Tell Mrs Davie´s class that he had a pleasant journey.

Cameron R's week with Halga

Helga and I went to Couper Angus skate board ramp and went skating on my skateboard. We went to my dad's farm and went on all the tractors and all the machines. We went to my new house and helped my dad paint and then we played in the field. We went to my nanny's house and slept over for one night then went home in the morning . We also played in my garden on the swings and on the chute.

Halga spends the weekend with Miss Alexander

Well finally we in L6A can send you news of HAlga and let you know that he is safe and well and enjoying his time in Scotland. His first weekend was spent with Miss Alexander who enjoyed his company and made sure his first few days were good fun. Together we went to the beach and went on a lovely walk along the coast of Fife. We had a picnic stop and Halga enjoyed sandwiches, crisps and chocolate cake! On Sunday Halga kept fit and came on a run with Miss Alexander and Miss Hulbert - we were all exhausted after our run and needed a long rest. Halga went on his first visit to a supermarket. Tescos was very busy on Sunday afternoon but before long the shopping had been done and we were back home. Halga was quite a lazy bear in the evening - he was quite happy to slouch in front of the T.V. and get ready for school the next day.

Whisky has arrived

After a full month he finally arrived. We had almost given up hope to ever see him. He spent the first night at Mrs Ulvelid´s house where he rested after his long journey. We are all so happy that he is here!
So he is now a part of our lives and a part of class 4B at Dala School in West of Göteborg in sweden. This first week he will have time to settle in and then the work and adventure begins for our new friend Whisky!
